Following in Poldark’s Footsteps

Last week me and the OH took an amazing trip to the beautiful coastal resort of Carlyon Bay. We stayed in a stunning apartment a five minute walk from a sandy beach. The best part was it was just a 15-20 minute walk to Charlestown where you can follow in Poldark’s footsteps.

We took the walk down through the fields along the coast on the first night there. The path can be a little steep but it’s not a difficult path to take. There’s also a road route for those not wanting to follow the coastal path.

When you get half way along the coast there’s a look out point over Charlestown. From here you can see the beach where Ross Poldark led the pillaging of the Warleggans’ ship and then where Matthew Sanson was later murder (sorry spoiler alert!). You can also see the charming harbour and the harbour wall which features heavily in the series.

When you arrive in Charlestown you are immediately hit by the character that it exudes. We took a walk along the harbour wall, watching the children (and adults) harbour jumping into the clear blue water below. There was even a small Jack Russell who was taking a swim with the kids within the harbour wall.

After watching the comings and goings from the small harbour-side pebble beach (the one used in filming was around in the next cove) we went exploring the village.

Charlestown Pub

As you can tell we got our priorities straight as soon as we arrived. The sun was shining and the pub was calling. All I kept thinking is I must be following in Poldark’s footsteps as Aidan must have had a pint overlooking this harbour…because who wouldn’t!
