Should You Extend?

When it comes to our homes, it’s safe to say that we are probably always looking for ways to improve it. Unless of course you have spent the previous ten years working on it, then you may be okay for a few months or a year before you decide to start the process over again! And yes, this can be exhausting. But, sometimes, it pays to invest in your home a lot more than it does to go through the moving process – because we all know how much of a hardship that can be! Now, while there are many improvements that you can make to your home, it’s safe to say that extending (or converting) can give you the biggest transformation. Let’s take a look at whether this might be right for you.

  1. Space

To start with, it’s essential that you can physically extend. Don’t just hope that you can. There are rules and regulations for this. And so, you will absolutely want to be sure that you extend the space in the ways to need or want to. And there are different options that you have for this. So think about whether you’re going to do single or double story, and whether it will be to the side back, both, or even just a conversion.

  1. Cost

When you know that this is going to work or that you definitely want to go for it, the next step is to think about the cost. Because it’s not always cheap! But you do need to be able to budget for what you want, and work out how you’re going to save for it. Because it can be a huge cost, and you need to be sure that you can afford what you want, or that you stick to what you can afford.

  1. Process

But then also, you have the actual process involved here to think about. And you are going to need to hire the right people, such as Eastern Concrete, to help you do it. Sometimes, you may find a contractor that can take on the entire job from start to finish, so that you no do have to be involved. But if you want to project manage a bit more, then you will need to pick out the suppliers you want to work with, to get the best finish.

  1. Value

It’s also important for you to think about the value you’re adding to your home. It’s never smart to spend more on your home that what it’s worth. So just be sure that you are leaving room for profit too.

  1. Time

Finally, you may also want to keep in mind just how long this may take. Because extending your home just isn’t something that happens overnight. It can take months to complete and there are sometimes delays. So if you are considering extending your home, you need to make sure that you set the right expectations and that you can work with the time frame that you are quoted by the tradesmen that you’re working with.
