The Joy Of Starting A New Hobby

Starting a new hobby can help to give your life purpose and meaning – even if you don’t stick with this one, trying something new can help you to feel good and give you an idea of what you do and don’t like. Everybody needs a hobby, and if you can’t find one, you should keep trying!

Below, we’ll take a look at what you can do to ignite the joy of starting a new hobby – take a look and you should have something new to try in no time.

Make A List Of Things You’ve Always Wanted To Try

Start by making a list of things you’ve always wanted to try so that you have a jumping off point. For example, you may include watercolor painting, playing the violin, and weight lifting. All of those hobbies are beneficial and can be fun in different ways depending on what it is you want to achieve and what you find rewarding. You can then try rating these hobbies on a scale of 1-5, 5 being you are desperate to try them and 1 being you don’t mind waiting a while. More ideas include:

  • Rock climbing
  • Horse riding
  • Hiking
  • Making jewelry
  • Candle making
  • Making clothes
  • Growing a vegetable garden
  • Scrapbooking
  • Antiquing
  • Playing an instrument
  • Yoga
  • Knitting
  • Crocheting
  • Baking

Whatever you do, make sure the momentum is high and that you feel excited about the prospect of starting your new hobby.

Watch YouTube Tutorials

You don’t need to travel somewhere to try a new hobby, necessarily. There are all kinds of tutorials online that you can try, and they will allow you to give things a go on your own so you can get an idea of whether you like it before investing even more time and money. Buy basic materials if it looks easy enough and see what you can put together yourself at home. You might be surprised!

Get A One To One Lesson

If you’d like to take things further with your hobby (or it’s not something you can do at home, such as rock climbing or horse riding), then invest in a one to one lesson. You’ll need to make sure you have the necessary equipment, but it could be a good idea to rent before you buy. That being said, a sturdy pair of boots will come in handy for horse riding and potentially other outdoorsy hobbies. One to one lessons may be more rewarding, because you will be given personalized feedback on where you may need to improve.

Track Your Progress

Don’t forget to track your progress! Tracking your progress can help you to keep that momentum up, and is a wonderful way to see how far you’ve come. For example, you could set some goals – what do you want to be able to paint, or what piece do you want to be able to make? Take pictures at various stages of your journey, too!

Starting a new hobby is a real joy and everybody can benefit – what will you try?
